More than a decade ago, a team of American dermatologists and engineers, led by Robert Grove, Ph.D., and James Holtz, Ph.D., developed the first diode laser for hair removal utilized by physicians in their medical practices. The laser they developed in 1993, called the LightSheer™, went on to become the gold standard for laser hair removal among physicians. Mark Weckwerth, Ph.D., and Tobin Island, Ph.D., led the effort to bring this outstanding laser system through development into production, and Jonathan Pearson, MBA, pioneered its introduction into the Asian market.

In 2003, this group of esteemed individuals partnered together once again to form SpectraGenics, Inc. They combined their unique talents and assembled an internationally renowned team of experts in the field of aesthetic laser technologies. Soon thereafter, they began developing TRIA.

While TRIA continues to roll out in the global marketplace, SpectraGenics continues its development of cutting-edge therapeutic, light-based devices for the global consumer market.
